At My Social Secretary ("we," "us," or "our"), we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our event, trip, and task planning service on the web and through our iOS and Android apps (together, the "Service").
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1.1 Information you provide.
1.2 Information automatically collected.
1.3 Information about other people that you provide. If you add friends, invite guests to an event or trip, or import contacts from a spreadsheet, we collect the name, email address, and phone number you provide for those individuals so we can send invitations and coordinate the event or trip on your behalf. If you are inviting someone, please make sure you have their permission to share their contact information with us.
1.4 Payment information. If you use in-app expense settlements, payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number; we store transaction references and statuses needed to show you the status of a settlement.
1.5 Information from third-party integrations you connect. If you choose to connect a third-party account (Google Calendar, Gmail, Splitwise, or Stripe), we receive information from that service as described in Section 4.
We use the information we collect to:
We do not sell your personal information. We share information in the following circumstances:
3.1 With people you interact with on the Service. When you invite someone to an event, trip, poll, or shared list, we share the relevant event/trip details with them, and we share your name and RSVP-relevant answers with the event or trip organizer and, where applicable, other attendees and co-hosts (for example, your RSVP status, item claims, or messages you post).
3.2 Service providers. We share information with third-party service providers who process it on our behalf to operate the Service, listed in Section 4.
3.3 Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of My Social Secretary, our users, or the public.
3.4 Business transfers. If My Social Secretary is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to standard confidentiality protections.
We rely on the following third-party providers to operate the Service. Each processes the data described below subject to its own privacy policy.
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we delete your account record. Content that is part of another user's record — for example, an RSVP response you submitted to someone else's event, or a friend contact another user has added for you — may remain as part of that other user's record, since it is data they collected to run their own event or trip. We may also retain limited information where required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.
Consistent with our Terms of Service, the Service is intended for users who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 (or under 13 in any case, in accordance with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your information may be processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States, where our servers and service providers are located. Where required by applicable law, we take steps intended to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers.
If you are located in the European Union or United Kingdom, you have additional rights over your personal data, including the right to: access your personal data; correct inaccurate data; request erasure ("right to be forgotten"); restrict processing; receive a portable copy of your data; object to certain processing; and withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address in Section 16.
If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to: know what personal information we collect; know whether we sell or share personal information (we do not); request deletion of your personal information; and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address in Section 16.
We use essential cookies required for the Service to function — for example, to keep you signed in and to protect forms against cross-site request forgery. We do not currently use analytics or advertising cookies. If that changes, we will update this policy. Most browsers allow you to refuse or delete cookies; note that the Service may not function properly without essential cookies.
The Service may contain links to third-party websites (for example, a location's website or a payment provider's site). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites and encourage you to read their privacy policies.
The Service offers optional AI-assisted features — for example, generating event ideas or attire descriptions — powered by OpenAI. When you use one of these features, the details you provide are sent to OpenAI to generate a response. Under OpenAI's standard API terms, data submitted through the API is not used to train OpenAI's models. Do not include sensitive personal information about yourself or others in an AI prompt.
These features are assistive only: they generate suggestions and drafts for you to review, and they do not make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you. You remain in control of whether to use any AI-generated content.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the Service or by email. Your continued use of the Service after a change becomes effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your information, contact us at andrea@mysocialsecretary.com or through our Contact page.
